Following the death of Canning in 1827 and the resultant weak leadership of the Tories by Goderich, the King sent for the Duke of Wellington in 1828 and asked him to form a government. This he did, but was only able to remain as Prime Minister until 1830 when, having resisted parliamentary reform, he was forced to resign. |
